Women’s Experience in War

Women’s Voice

Ukrainian women had been part of the liberation struggle throughout the 20th century—as soldiers, medics, liaisons, volunteers, researchers and keepers of memory. Today, their voice is particularly prominent not only in military literature, but also in public and cultural life of the country.

The authors of this section represent diverse experiences of the current war: frontline, medical evacuation, war documentation, poetry, war journalism, work with memory, education and post-traumatic support. Through books, photography, reporting, volunteering, international speeches and public initiatives, they not only speak about the war, but also help society learn about care, responsibility and mutual support. Their voices have become an important part of the contemporary Ukrainian culture of remembrance and war experience.
